Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the team reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
